Udaipur - Rajasthan - India

Rajasthan, the combination of two Hindi words (1) King (2) Place, means Place of Kings. Before becoming Rajasthan, it was scattered in many small states ruled by different kings of their time. All these states were united by Mewar's Rana's and turned it into a whole big state of India as Rajputana (Rajasthan).
There are so many haritage sites and places which you would like to visit.

Udaipur:
Udaipur was established by Rana Udai Singh (Father of Maharana Pratap Singh) for residential purpose between the mountains due to its natural greenery. Udaipur is also known as Lake City, because there are so many lakes in the circumference of Udaipur. It is surrounded by mountains from all sides. Calm and Green City of the state. It was the beautiful city of the state and still bears the crown of beautiful city in the state as well as in the country. It has remained the first visiting point for the visitors from long time, and it is also said that if you are going to visit rajasthan/india, then do visit Udaipur, the city of lakes. Few of prides of the city are mentioned below as per my knowledge which i explored in last three years of my stay in the city.

  • Lake Pichhola:
    • Made by a Banjara in the time of Rana udai Singh, when Udai Singh established Udaipur City. Lake was made by stopping the mountain water for common men's use. This is further attached with Fateh Sagar Lake and its surrounded by all royal palaces, hotels and sunset point from two sides and by mountains and open space from other two sides. You can enjoy Motor Boat riding in this lake, Jag Mandir (well known and very famous royal heritage resort) is in middle of Lake Pichhola. Hotel Lake Palace is also in middle of this Lake.

  • Jag Mandir/Temple:
    • Situated middleof Lake Pichhola. You can reach by motor boats. Its converted now into heritage hotels/resorts. Hollywood movie 'Octopussy' was filmed in udaipur and Jag Mandir. Many celebs also choose this place as their royal wedding destination.
  • Lake Palace Hotel:
    • In the middle of the Lake Pichhola. Royal Hotel Palace. It remains the center point for stay for the celebs who generally choose this city as their wedding place. This Royel Hotel, along with Jag Mandir both are in middle of Lake Pichhola and gives immense peace to the mind with natural and calm water around it.
  • Fateh Sagar Lake:
    • This Lake was made by Rana Fateh Singh in 1680s, just ahead of lake pichola. The beautiful and most visiting place of udaipur and well known by FS for young generation. Most famous place Fateh Sagar's Paal. Its surrounded by Road from all sides. It is one of the four lakes of the Udaipur city; the other three being : the Lake Pichola (within the Udaipur town), Udai Sagar Lake (13 km to the east of Udaipur) and Dhebar Lake or Jaisamand Lake (52 km south east of Udaipur) Road sides of fateh sagar are known by Fateh Sagar ki Paal (फ़तेह सागर की पाल), Visitors hub (snakes, tea, coffee points), Rani Road etc.
  • Nehru Garden:
    • This is situated in the middle of Fateh Sagar Lake. You can reach there by speed boats for spending some time in peace and beauty of the nature. Its seems like an Island which situated in fateh Sagar along with solar observatery.
  • Solar Observatory:
    • It is also in middle of Fateh Sagar Lake. The observatory was built in 1976 by Dr. Arvind Bhatnagar following the model of the Solar Observatory at Big Bear lake in Southern California. Later, he was joined by Dr. Ashok Ambastha in 1983 and subsequently by many others at different stages who have continued further contributing to its development. The observatory is having best environmental conditions for research and development on planets as sounds and heat rays are absorbed by water surrounded it.

  • City Palace:
    • The city Palace was built concurrently with establishment of the Udaipur city by Maharana Uday Singh, in 1559 and his successor Maharana's over a period of the next 300 years. It is considered the largest royal complex in Rajasthan and is replete with history.
    • Founding of the city and building of the palace complex can not be looked in isolation as the Maharana's lived and administered their kingdom from this palace at his capital Udaipur, Maharana Uday Singh soon faced defeat at the hands of Mughal Emperor Akbar. He soon moved to Udaipur to the chosen location to establish his new capital. The earliest royal structure he built here was the Royal courtyard or 'Rai Angan', which was the beginning of the building of the City Palace complex, at the place where the hermit had advised Maharana to build his Capital.

  • Sajjangarh Fort) also known as Mansoon Palace:
    • It used to be the Residence palace for the ruler family when they shifted from Chittorgarh to Udaipur. It over looks the Fateh Sagar Lake. It is named as Sajjan-garh after Maharana Sajjan Singh (1874–1884) of the Mewar Dynasty, who built it in 1884. The palace offers a panoramic view of the city's lakes, palaces and surrounding countryside.
    • It was built basically to watch the monsoon clouds; hence, appropriately, it is popularly known as Monsoon Palace also. It is said that the Maharana built it at the top of the hill to get a view of his ancestral home of Chittaurgarh. Previously owned by the Mewar royal family, it is now under the control of the Forest Department of the Government of Rajasthan and has been opened to the public recently. The palace provides a beautiful view of the sunset also. The riding over the hill is so steep that one should avoid biking but it would be adventurous it one does on his own risk.
  • Karni Mata and Neemach Mata Temples:
    • Udaipur is surrounded by mountains from all sides and two of peaks having Above two Devi's (Goddess) temples over there. Karni Mata can be reached by rope way from Pandit Deen Dayal  Upadhyay's garden best known by Sunset Point, Where awesome look of sun set and musical fountains can be enjoyed.
Neemach mata is on another peak where you can reach by stairs. Feeling awesome with natural greenery while going upstairs.

  • Saheliyon ki Baari / Courtyard of the Maidens:
    • Sahelion Ki Bari' was laid for a group of forty-eight young women attendants who accompanied a princess to Udaipur as part of her dowry. The gardens set below the embankment of the Fateh Sagar Lake have beautiful lotus pools, marble pavilions and elephant- shaped fountains. These fountains are fed by the water of the lake gushing through ducts made for the purpose. Each water channel has its distinct sound and the mingling of these sounds complement the ambiance of the place Near to saheliyon-ki-bari is burhani nagar and burhani masjid, vidhiya bhawan school and seva mandir marg. • This War field of Maharana Pratap and Mugal Badshah Akbar's Army lies in Khamnor ki Ghati. Bettle field became totally red and in yellow after gwtting dry like turmeric with the blood of sluttered Soldiers. Its name turned to Haldi Ghati.

      History
On June 21, 1576 (or June 18 in other calculations), the armies of Pratap and Akbar (led by Syed Hashim) met at Haldighati, near the town of Gogunda. Pratap's army had a contingent of Afghan warriors led by his commander, Hakim Khan Sur.Hakim Khan Suri (also known as Hakim Soz Khan Afghan) was an Afghan warrior and chief of artillery in Rana Pratap's army. He fought valorously with him in the Battle of Haldighati and died in 1576. A small army of the Bhils, whom the Rana had befriended, also joined the battle against the Mughals. On the other hand, the Mughal forces led by Syed Hashim boasted of numerical superiority, which vastly outnumbered the Rajputs.
Pratap was riding his trusted horse,
Chetak (चेतक), which despite being seriously wounded and utterly exhausted, carried his master till about 2 miles away from the battle, eventually succumbing to its injuries while jumping a nallah (stream). It is said, that Pratap's younger brother Shakti Singh, who until then was fighting on behalf of the Mughal army, followed Pratap until this point, and upon a change of heart, gave him his own horse to escape away because in childhood, Pratap saved shakti singh from MrityuDand/Life Penalty which was given by Rana Udaisingh, the father of Shakti Singh and Pratap Singh itself for misbehaving and not answering valid reasons for doing misbehave.
The other lesser-known heroes of Haldighati were the Bhil Adivasis of the Aravallis, whose valour, knowledge of terrain and intensive arrow showers made the battle far from one-sided. In recognition of their extraordinary contribution to Rajputana and to protecting these lands, a Bhil stands alongside a Rajput on either side of the Royal Coat of Arms of Mewar.

The battle of Haldighati has commanded a lasting presence in Rajasthani folklore, and the persona of Pratap Singh, is celebrated in a folk song “O Neele Ghode raa Aswaar”(O Rider of the Blue Horse)
